Curriculum
The accounting major provides academic and experiential opportunities for you to become a professional accountant. Job opportunities include careers in public accounting, business and industry, not-for-profit organizations and government. The accounting program is designed for students who plan to enter public accounting or other professional accounting fields. The general accounting program is appropriate for individuals who plan to enter other areas of accounting or to complement other programs of study.
Extracurricular Opportunities
Beta Alpha Psi
Beta Alpha Psi is a professional service fraternity that includes accounting, finance and information system technology majors. Members discuss current issues concerning professions and take advantage of networking opportunities.
Investment Club
The Investment Club welcomes students in a variety of majors from throughout the University. Members meet weekly to actively manage a trading portfolio consisting of over $100,000 in real cash, as well as discuss stocks, exchange-traded funds, commodities and much more.
National Association of Black Accountants
The National Association of Black Accountants represents the interests of minorities participating in the fields of accounting, auditing, business, consulting, finance and information technology. Its mission is to address the professional needs of members and to build leaders who shape the future of the accounting and finance arenas.
The Goodman IMPRESS program
The Goodman IMPRESS Program is designed to provide all Whitman undergraduates with the skills and experiences employers seek, including leadership, communications, certifications, global context and industry exploration. All incoming students are placed in one of four “houses.” Within these houses, they experience healthy competition as they develop their extracurricular skills under the direction of four committed and excellent house masters who teach the introductory business course and serve as their first faculty mentor, along with outstanding sophomore and junior peer facilitators.
